Swollen glands and swollen lymph nodes always affect particular parts of the body, since the problem will only make an appearance wherever the nodes are present. The lymph nodes are heavily concentrated roughly around the throat, armpits and the chest area, and are also found near the groin area in the lower body. The lymph nodes around the neck are known as cervical lymph nodes, those under the collar bones and near the upper chest are called subclavian lymph nodes, nodes in the armpits are axillary lymph nodes, those found in the chest area are called pectoral lymph nodes, those found just above the collar bones called supraclavicular lymph nodes and the ones in the groin area are known as inguinal lymph nodes.
However, among these lymph nodes, there are some which are swollen more frequently than others. The lymph nodes under the jaw are among the most frequently swollen areas because that swelling could result from a number of infections such as various viral infections and even an infected tooth. Most of the time, these swellings are harmless, but not in the case when a cancer around the area is the cause for it.
Speaking of cancer, the swollen lymph nodes in the armpits are particularly important as an indication of the breast cancer, but of course, its cause is not limited to that. Many of the lymph node swellings are perfectly normal, and some occur in the case of minor infections, and even the swelling of the inguinal lymph nodes could be normal, except for being caused by STD in some cases. But the swelling of the supraclavicular lymph nodes, located above the collar bones are almost always a dangerous sign, and mostly are suggestive of cancer.
